Rio Chico and San Jos are villages, both important points of attraction for the domestic tourism, mainly on weekends and holidays. These villages were important cocoa producers in colonial times, especially during a great part of the 18th century.
In Rio Chico that used to be called Little Caracas, you can still admire fine houses, relics from its colonial past. Nowadays this area is highly cherished by the inhabitants of Caracas and its surrounding areas because of its attractive beaches, creeks and the Tacarigua Lagoon National Park.
