The municipality is
the result of immigration from the colonial city of León Viejo abandoned by the
eruption of theMomotombo volcanoin the seventeenth century.Originally the urban settlement was
located in a place called Hato de Las Palmas, later known as Saint Nicholas of
naborios or naboria, from 1610.
