La Villa de Santiago de Tolu is one of
the oldest urban centers of Colombia, and the municipality of Santiago de Tolu
was founded on July 25, 1535 by the conquistador Alonso de Heredia, with the
name of Villa de Santiago Thrice Crowned of Tolu.Alonso de Ojeda, had visited the shores of the Gulf
of Morrosquillo in 1499, and this time Heredia recognized domains of the old
Indian Tolú firstborn.
