The original town founders were members of the Society
of Jesus , the religious order came to Colombia in 1589 ( XVI century ), and
its members settled in Cartagena de Indias with the desire to expand in the Viceroyalty
of New Granada .In 1648 (nearly 60 years
later), the Spanish Crown granted permission to the Catholic Church so that
through the said religious order to organize the scattered communities in the
