Skagway has a Continental Mediterranean
climate which is very unusual for a
place so far north. It is in the rain shadow of the coastal mountains, though
not as pronounced as the rain shadow in Southcentral Alaska, in the valley of
the Susitna River, this still allows it to receive only half as much
precipitation as Juneau and only a sixth as much as Yakutat
