As part of a wide Saraiki belt, the main language is Saraiki, although Urdu and Punjabi are also spoken in the region.
It’s considered that famous saint Hazrat Syed Sultan Ahmed Bukhari Pir Qatal (RA), who was born at ‘Uch’ in 1542, kept the name of city-town ‘Jalal Pur’ after the name of one of his ancestors; Hazrat Syed Jalal-Uddin Bukhari Sohorwardi (RA). Jalalpur Pirwala enjoyed various Islamic saints; this is why second name of city-town is ‘Pir’ which means ‘saint’ in Saraiki & Urdu. Pirwala means a place where saint (Pir) lives.
