expulsion of ash dates from2005, and the last eruption of lava, which
forced the evacuation of the island occurred in1957.After a long period of inactivity, the
volcano returned to activity in1883with a period of eruption that lasted
four years.Since then, eruptions
have been repeated with some frequency in1889,1902,1907,
and1924.The
volcano is covered by 2,200 hectares of protected forest.In2005there was a 6.2 magnitude quake onRichter scale
