The island's name derives from the Nahuatl Ōme 'two' and tepet 'mountain (s)', since it consists almost entirely by the cones of two volcanoes : the volcano Concepción and Maderas volcano . Be struck by the similarity of shapes and cardinal orientation between Tahiti and Ometepe (both are shaped like eight), and both are volcanic in two sections separated by an isthmus, and both are populated on the north side than on the side south, with the difference that Ometepe has two volcanoes well formed (not in Tahiti, are remnants of ancient volcanic structures) and Tahiti is about twice the length of Ometepe
