Culture of Johor Bahru

JuteVilla
In the heart of the Johor Bahru city, just a stone throw’s away from busy areas such as Jalan Wong Ah Fook, lies the cultural gem of Johor Bahru—Jalan Tan Hiok Nee. Named after an immensely successful and powerful business and political figure that shaped Johor’s development during the reign of Sultan Abu Bakar around the late 1800s, Jalan Tan Hiok Nee is one of the oldest streets in downtown Johor Bahru and certainly one of the richest in terms of history and culture.

As a matter of fact, the significance of Jalan Tan Hiok Nee has led to the street being recognized as a cultural street to preserve the culture of the Chinese community there. Not only is the street an active example of the cultural richness of the area, but it is also home to a Chinese Heritage Museum where curious visitors can find out more about the history of the area.
