The fell is considered to be a wild oasis between the fells in the north and is a popular destination for hikers. In December 2004, the fell was incorporated into the Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park.

There are over 1,000 museums in Finland, including museums of Art, Cultural History, Natural History, and almost 20 national Specialized museums. Although over a third of the Finnish museums are run professionally, the Finns love of culture and history is most clearly seen in the number of locally run museums and galleries present in every town and city.

Finland's national poet, Johan Ludvig Runeberg, his wife Fredrika and their sons moved to Porvoo in 1837, and to the house that now operates as their home museum in 1852. This is Finland's first home museum, opened to the public in 1882
