The Municipality of Timbiquà was founded in
1772 by Francisco Antonio de Mosquera and Andrew Saa. Raised to town in 1915,
then heirs of Mosquera had the need to found a village and gave their own land
occupied by fishermen between Alonso and streams Zurzula, that on this site the
town got up, giving rise to Santa Barbara, now known as the county seat. Analyzing
the process of settlement of the municipality can be deduced that the first
settlers were the indigenous Embera - Wanana from the banks of the river San Juan.
