Inhabited by the nation of Indians Corbaraques warriors Guane chiefdom. It was erected parish in 1675, on land currently occupied by the hacienda la Candelaria on the banks of Lenguaruco river and moved in 1810 to the lot of land donated by Don Crisostomo Echeverria on June 14 of that year, this is the place currently occupied.

Politically Suaita is divided into 12 villages: Ephraim, Judah, Dan, Gad, Manasseh, Benjamin, Simeon, Naphtali, Joseph, Levi, Asser, Ruben and 4 districts: San José de Suaita, Vado Real, Tolotá and Olival.
