Before the arrival of the Spanish conquistadors, the
commune was inhabited by the Muisca. The
tribes inhabiting the region were simijacas Sutas and submitted by Hernán Pérez
de Quesada in 1541. The Oídor Luis Enriquez by car
August 14, 1600 uttered in Cucunubá founded the present town of Simijaca,
