Gonzalo Jiménez de Quesada and Gonzalo Fernandez de Oviedo in 1541 wrote the first chronicles about the region of Magdalena Medio, Carare Opón area. In 1547, Francisco Núñez exploits the left bank of the region on the same river, from the river La Miel.

In 1826 Don Vicente Azuero and other comrades organized the "Colonization Company Carare" which was committed with the central government to colonize the land between Puerto Carare and Velez, the same year he organized the Relief "Company da Agricultura and Trade Opón "whose commitment was to
