Current Policarpa was populated before the
arrival of the Spaniards by two indigenous groups, and Sindaguas Chapanchicas.
The first lived in a period of development corresponding to the Pre-Archaic and
therefore were concheras tribes, as evidenced by archaeological remains left by
them; Sindaguas meanwhile reached a level of development that started in the
Archean and archaeologically though they were warrior tribes were located on
the banks of the Patia River where they initially devoted to horticulture and
agriculture then.
