This territory, at the time of the conquest, was
populated by Indians Nutabes and Tahamíes , who finished at war with much of
the conquering armies. These nations family of Catíos
were so warlike that not infrequently cut off the heads of the Iberian soldiers
and cops hung in their villages. The Valdivia conqueror, for example,
along with several of his soldiers, had this sad end in a place known even
today as the Massacre Site
