The history of the founding of Mitu lie in the great
rivalry between Colombian and Brazilian rubber tappers, the monopolization of
labor, mainly in the margins of the basins and upper reaches of the Black River
and Apaporis. By 1903 an intense activity of
Colombian rubber tappers in the high and low Vaupés the river Papurí Tiquié
