Toponymy

This town is named after one of the indigenous settlements located on the banks of the Magdalena River Aboriginal comprised Ondaimas , which together with the Gualies occupied the area of the present town of Honda.  The Spanish named it Villa de San Bartolomé and then were given nicknames such as "The City of Bridges" for having more than forty bridges over the rivers Magdalena , Gualí , Guarino and Quebrada Seca . It is also called
