The area that is now Girardota was
inhabited by Indians Nutabes and Yamesíes , who devoted
mainly to agriculture. In 1620 a group of settlers fromAntioquia is
located in the hamlet of San Diego and founded the village, which was
depending on the city of Santa Fe de Antioquia (capital of the
department at the time), until 1675 it was transferred to the village
Villa de Medellín .
In 1648 acquired these lands Dona
Margarita de Alarcón, widow of Miguel Marin,
