Due to its geographical location, Filandia has a
high-land tropical climate characterized by two main climatic indicators,
"frió-húmedo" (cold-humid) and "templado-húmedo"
(warm-humid). The average annual temperature is 18°C, and precipitation in the
form of rain is sporadic. However, due to the climatic phenomena known as El
Niño and La Niña precipitation in the form of hail sometimes occurs, most
recently in 1996 when approximately 15 cm of hail fell over most of
northern Quindío.
