The town of El Rosario, was founded in 1815 by a family of Spanish origin, composed of Don Vicente and Concepcion Mariano Ojeda, accompanied by Fermín Gómez. This family had been banished from the city of Quito Ecuador, where a result of the peace process, many families who had supported the cause of liberation, they were persecuted to blood and fire.

From Quito to Pasto came with the intention of arriving in the province of Popayan and then to the Atlantic coast and then sailed for Spain, but they did not work out as they thought, reaching Pasto,
