Formerly this area was populated by culture
Quimbaya (ethnicity) who used agriculture as the main basis of their
livelihood, by the exploitation of salt mines and metallurgy of gold and
copper. The municipal center began to form in 1920, when settlers like Peter
Arango, Antonio Carmona, Rafael Velásquez and Ramón Marulanda settled in the
region. Its first mayor was Pedro Hernandez, Cobo happened Alfonso Velasco, who
corresponded install the first council of the municipality, Don Pascual Zapata
was elected president of that party
