The origin of Mercy is in the division of
the territories near Cartagena de Indias in 1704; the current territory of the
municipality was given to the priest Juan Dominguez and inherited by his
family; the late eighteenth century the land was acquired by Bernard Grau, who
after the War of Independence gives their titles to his daughter Maria
Clemencia Grau. Because it is during this time that the small settlement is
consolidated, the name "land of Clemency" is generalized. Oral
