The population of Caloto was founded in
1543 by Captain Juan Sebastian Moreno by Belalcázar transladada Caloto was in
1582 by the continuous attacks of Paez indigenous and pijaos. In 1585 renaming
Nueva Segovia; the full name is St. Stephen Segovia New Caloto.
