The foundation of today's town of Agua de
Dios is because a group of patients withleprosy were banished by the
inhabitants of a town called Tocaima , for fear of being infected
with leprosy, being forced, the sick, to invade the land of a farm called
"Water of God" in order to build their homes. Subsequently the
Colombian state bought in the year of 1867 these lands to Dr. Manuel
Murillo Toro to be allocated as Lazaretto, which took effect on August 10 of 1870 which
is the date which is taken as foundation.
