Chintz, the place is known since the seventeenth century by the name of El Batey. A few miles away, at the confluence of the river Unare Quebrada Honda, Miguel de cities, lieutenant John Orpin, founded in 1645 the city of San Miguel de Tarragona's New Batey, was a strategic place where the roads crossed Eastern and plains. There he built a chapel under the invocation of the Archangel Michael. In 1767 the area was already so crowded that marriages and baptisms were authorized in that chapel. Neighbors, Juan Bautista Arvelaiz, Juan Bautista Laguardia, Nicholas Durante, Jos� Antonio Toro, Bartholomew Mature, Bernardino Rodriguez, Juan Jose Subero and others, charged the father Jos� Vicente Machillanda, the May 4, 1778, that on behalf request on site erection parish, which had been authorized since the time of Bishop Diego Antonio Diez Madro�ero.
