Carolina Company, a grocery store chain with stores in
South Carolina and Georgia, is headquartered in the city. Charleston is
becoming a prime location for information technology jobs and corporations and
has experienced the highest growth in this sector between 2011 and 2012 due in
large part to the Charleston Digital Corridor. In 2013, the Milken Institute
ranked the Charleston region the ninth best performing economy in the US due in
large part to the growing IT sector. Notable companies include Blackbaud,
SPARC, Boom Town, CSS and Benefit focus. Higher education is also an important
sector in the local economy, with institutions such as the Medical University
of South Carolina, College of Charleston, The Citadel, The Military College of
South Carolina, and Charleston School of Law. Charleston is also an important
art destination, named a top 25 arts destination by American Style magazine
