JuteVilla

Preclassic

Ceibal was first populated in the Preclassic, circa 900. C.  reached its peak population in the Late Preclassic period, around 200 BC.C.  The pottery found in the deeper levels of the site date to the Middle Preclassic and Xe phase belong to the eastern region of Peten, a phase of which little is known.  A deposit cruciform style Olmec , whose content consisted of a bleeder blades and axes ofjade , is similar to those that were found in the Olmec heartland area in the coastal zone of the Gulf of Mexico , and it is likely that these artifacts were manufactured in La Venta .  This tank dates from approximately 900 to. C.

The first settlement in the Middle Preclassic was confined mainly to set A. In the Late Preclassic, after 300 BC. C. , the settlement was extended to include the set D.  Late Preclassic (or Proto), Ceibal experienced a population decline that, until now, remained unexplained.

Early Classic

During the Early Classic, decline, which began in the Late Preclassic for unknown reasons, continued to the point that the site was almost completely abandoned around 300 AD. C.

Late Classic

Ceibal experienced a resurgence in the Late Classic, with a population expansion of employment linked to the great city of Tikal . around 650 d. C., new people moved to the city in order to found a new kingdom.  New buildings were carried out in sets A and D, with a particular emphasis on the set D which became an important part of the center ceremonial.  All monuments
