Forming part of the development project for the western city centre, the covering of highway 3 will be carried out through cooperation between the city and NCC.
The construction project will alter traffic arrangements in Hämeenlinna. Examples include:
- the construction of a new motorway ramp in the Tampere direction
- Kaivokatu and Eureninkatu will become two-way streets
- the old motorway bridges on Turuntie and Paasikiventie will be demolished and replaced by new bridges
In addition to traffic changes in Hämeenlinna caused by construction of the motorway deck and ramps, the speed limit on highway 3 will be temporarily limited to 50–80 kHz in the area of the construction site
