Initiative of a strong, persistent and concerned about the progress and development of their territory group the idea of still being township to become born Municipality; Villa Rica was created as a municipality on November 11, 1998 under Ordinance No. 021, being segregated from the municipality of Santander de Quilichao.
Today Villa Rica has nearly 15,000 inhabitants and has managed to improve their basic needs in sewerage, water and energy, making it so improve their quality of life by paving the main roads
