Between 1935 and 1936, Túquerres was devastated by a series of earthquakes that destroyed besides the city center, the village of La Chorrera leaving a tragic toll of more than 1000 deaths, in addition to a marked change in topography. Recreated in the Lopez Pumarejo by Law 115 of 1936 on August 5 debated in Congress. However, the municipality still retains part of its important role in the Republican era and early twentieth century as a strategic site in the marketing of agricultural products as well as highland Narino gold mines barbecues .
