In 1704 the town of San Juan Bautista de Taminango organized as an urban entity
appears, and in 1834 was organized as a parish district, whose files are
recorded baptisms of families Adrada Diaz, Guzman, Burbano, David and Tapia,
among others.
Historically Taminango in colonial times was tithe collection center of the
surrounding territory, to meet the clergy who provided spiritual care to the
residents, a situation that was changing according to new economic religious
structures, and policies.
In 1886 the town of Taminango is created by Ordinance No. 4 January 19, issued
by the Municipal Corporation of Pasto, segregating its territory of the
Municipality of San Lorenzo, with the limits that are known to the present and
which at that time belonged to Great Cauca and since 1904 the department of
NariƱo
