Purisima was erected to the category of Municipality through Ordinance 021 of 1934, issued by the Honorable Assembly Department of Bolivar, realizing at the time the territories that today belong to the Municipality of Momil, which are secreted in the year of 1963, Ordinance by the Departmental Assembly of Córdoba, which were attached to these territories after issuance of Act 9 of 1952.

The growth of the header shows various stages in the 20s, the existing San Juan de las Palmas, neighborhoods Pozo and El Brillante El Tamarindo joined. For 1945, The Zumbao arise neighborhoods and the Catfish, so that later, in the early 1950 appeared the other neighborhoods, including Laureano Gómez, San Rafael, La Candelaria, Buenos Aires, Los Caracoles, John XXIII (anterior Tamarindo) San Francisco (formerly Catfish), and Downtown San Fernando (formerly Los Pocitos).
