The foundation of the town is possibly back to the
second half of 1700 century on the left bank of the Rio Meta having been
endpoint path from Tunja and Bogotá down by Medina, a situation that allowed
the establishment of a regular trade flow between those cities and various
points connected by the currents of the Meta River, Orinoco and the Atlantic
Ocean , which is far 679 nautical miles. These
international exchanges were favored when President Tomás Cipriano de Mosquera
decreed in 1861 the free navigation of the Target and its tributaries for
domestic
