The city has a number of hotels, hostels and residential, able to contain the number of national and international tourists mainly increase in summer season, increasing to almost twice its population, among the hotels that stands out is the resort Halley located in the center of the city and its infrastructure which keeps the typical design of the buildings in the area.

Possession of highly transparent skies has become one of the capitals of astronomy in the country, which has allowed the installation in the commune of important astronomical observatories, most notably the Observatory Cerro Tololo , which functions as American network of CTIO , Cerro Pachon, SOAR Observatory , Gemini Observatory AURA and Great Synoptic Survey Telescope , or LSST currently under construction with opening ready for the year 2012 .
Another observatory located 9 km . north of the city, which has for tourism and education is the Cerro Mamalluca Observatory , where you can see through a modern telescope, both planets and other celestial bodies. The observatory depends on the municipality, and to visit it is necessary to make reservations for the municipal offices located in the vicinity of the main square of Vicu�a. Besides educational group tours are conducted at the scene, guided by trained astronomers. This place was the inspiration for the album Mamalluca chieno group Jaivas , released November 25 of 2009
