Istra is a town of European Russia Central ( oblast 'Moscow ), located 58 km to the west of the capital on the banks of the river of the same name , is the administrative capital of the district of the same name .
Was founded in 1589 under the name of Voskresenskoe named after the church called Voskresenija Christova and in 1781 it received the status of the city being renamed Voskresensk . It dates back to 1930 the last renaming that led to the current name, derivatole the name of the river that surrounds it.
Istra is a center mainly industrial (food, furniture). Noteworthy is the New Jerusalem Monastery
