Târgu Jiu is the capital of Gorj County, Oltenia, Romania.
It is situated on the Southern Sub-Carpathians, on the banks of the river Jiu.
Eight villages are administered by the city: Bârseşti, Drăgoeni, Iezureni,
Polata, Preajba Mare, Româneşti, Slobozia and Ursaţi.
