Vard is a town and a municipality in Finnmark county in the extreme northeast part of Norway.
Vard was established as a municipality on 1 January 1838 (see formannskapsdistrikt). The law required that all cities should be separated from their rural districts, but because of a low population and very few voters, this was impossible to carry out for Vard in 1838. (See also Hammerfest and Vads.)
The rural district of Vard (Vard herredrenamed Btsfjord in 1957) was separated from the city in 1868. The eastern part of Btsfjord was, however, merged back into the municipality of Vard on 1 January 1964
