Bokaro Steel City often known as City of Scholars, is a major industrial city and one of the fastest growing cities in the State of Jharkhand, in India. It is the district headquarters of Bokaro which is one of the most industrialized zone in India. It is home of the largest steel plants in India- Bokaro Steel Plant and Electrosteel Plant and several other medium and small industries is situated here.
Bokaro, the name originated from the river Bokaro in the west side of the district. Total Urban population of Bokaro Steel city including Chas, Jainamore, Industrial area(tupkadih) and realstate hub Chira Chas is near about 1000000. The urban area of City is more than 250 km. Bokaro Steel City is the headquarters of the Bokaro district as well as Koylanchal range (Bokaro, Dhanbadand Giridih). It is also one of the three headquarters of the Police IG zone, apart from Ranchi and Dumka, covering seven districts-Hazaribagh, Dhanbad, Giridih, Koderma, Chatra, Bokaro, and Ramgarh
