Valence is a commune in south-eastern France, the capital of the Drôme department, situated on the left bank of the Rhône, about 100 km (60 miles) south of Lyon, along the railway line that runs from Paris to Marseilles.

Its inhabitants are called Valentinois. Valence has been recognized as one of the French Towns and Lands of Art and History and has been given a high "four flowers" rating as a tourist destination by the Concours des villes et village’s fleuris.
