The village of Igls lies in the Tirol (Tyrol) region of Austria and is just south of Innsbruck (5km). The main road from Innsbruck to the Brenner Pass and Italy passes to the west of the village with the villages of Telfes and Mutters in the Stubai valley being a few km further to the west.
Already in the 19th century Igls has been a popular destination for many summer visitors from Innsbruck. As a consequence, a charming Tyrolean holiday village emerged. As in 1964 and 1976 Innsbruck was host city of the Olympic Games and the natural and artificial luge competitions were held in Igls, this village also drew international attention
